Peake, Harold John Edward (1867–1946)

English archaeologist and anthropologist. He pioneered the investigation of the distribution of types, realizing the close interdependence of physical anthropology and material archaeology.

Peake was born in Ellesmere, Cheshire. His books include The Origin of Agriculture 1926, Beginnings of Civilisation 1928, The Flood 1930, Early Steps in Human Progress 1933, and Study of Prehistoric Times 1940.
