Peale, Norman Vincent

Peale, Norman Vincent (1898–1993)

US Methodist leader. Through his radio programme and book The Art of Living 1948, he became one of the best-known religious figures in the USA. His The Power of Positive Thinking 1952 became a national best-seller. Peale was elected president of the Reformed Church in America in 1969.

Born in Bowersville, Ohio, USA, Peale was educated at Ohio Wesleyan University and was ordained in the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1922. After serving congregations in Brooklyn 1924–27 and Syracuse 1927–32, he became pastor of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City.
