Pearson, Drew (Andrew Russell) (1897–1969)

US newspaper correspondent, who from 1932 wrote the syndicated column ‘Washington Merry-Go-Round’. After his death the column was taken over by the newspaper columnist and writer Jack Anderson (1922– ).

Although Pearson's frank, anonymously published exposé Washington Merry-Go-Round (1931) became a best-seller, he was fired from the Baltimore Sun when his authorship became known. He openly published his column of the same name, working in conjunction with Robert Allen until 1942 and then alone until his death.
