Peckinpah, (David) Sam(uel) (1925–1984)

US film director. Mainly westerns, his films usually featured slow-motion, blood-spurting violence. His best work, such as The Wild Bunch (1969), exhibits a magisterial grasp of staging and construction.

Other films include The Deadly Companions (1961), Ride the High Country (1962), Major Dundee (1965), and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973).
