Pedrotti, Carlo (1817–1893)

Italian composer and conductor. He studied under Domenico Foroni at Verona where he produced his first opera, in 1840. From that time until 1845 he was conductor at the Italian Opera of Amsterdam; between 1845 and 1868 he directed the Nuovo and Filarmonico theatres at Verona. In 1868 he settled at Turin, where he became director of the Liceo Musicale. He also conducted at the Teatro Regio, where he gave Carmen, Lohengrin, and operas by Massenet, Gounod, and Goldmark. He founded popular orchestral concerts for classical music. He committed suicide.
