Pee Dee River

River flowing through the states of North and South Carolina. Formed by the confluence of the Uwharrie and Yadkin rivers, the Pee Dee runs southeast for a distance of 230 mi/370 km and empties into Winyah Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean northeast of Charleston.

From its point of origin 11 km/7 mi east-northeast of Albemarle, the Pee Dee flows southeast into South Carolina. After passing the town of Cheraw, it joins the Little Pee Dee River and then runs to Georgetown, on Winyah Bay. The river is named after the Pedee indigenous people, whose villages were located on its middle reaches.
