peer-to-peer

Exchange of information directly between network users without going through a third party. Napster was a clever software program that allowed users to exchange music files over the Internet, utilizing Napster's central servers, but was not true P2P. P2P programs allow users to access directly information on other users' hard drives, without the need for central servers.
