Pelham

Town in Shelby County, central Alabama, USA, 27 km/17 mi south of Birmingham; population (1990) 9,800. It is an expanding outer suburb of Birmingham.

Pelham

Town in Westchester County, southeastern New York State, USA, just north of the New York city border, between New Rochelle to the east and Mount Vernon to the west; population (1990) 11,900. Pelham Manor, which included the present communities of Pelham and Pelham Manor, was purchased in 1664 from the Siwanoy peoples. The Pelhams are now residential suburbs of New York.

Pelham

Town in Niagara Regional Municipality, southern Ontario, Canada, between the Niagara Escarpment to the north and the Welland River to the south; 23 km/14 mi southwest of Niagara Falls; population (1991) 13,300. Initially developed as an agricultural centre, with quarrying and some light industry, it became a dormitory community for Welland, St Catharines, and Niagara Falls after World War II.

Settled in the 1780s by Loyalists, American colonists sympathetic to Britain during the Revolution, it was sited at the highest point of the Niagara Plain for defensive purposes.
