Pellico, Silvio (1789–1854)| Italian writer. He established himself with the tragedy Francesca da Rimini 1818. Later tragedies include Eufemio di Messina, Ester d'Engaddi, Iginia d'Asti, and Corradino. For his connections with the secret society of the Carbonari, he endured ten years' imprisonment, an account of which he published in Le mie prigioni 1832. |
