Pembroke Pines

City in Broward County, southeastern Florida, USA, 10 km/6 mi from the Atlantic and adjoining Hollywood to the west; population (1990) 65,500. Situated in a suburban corridor midway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, it mainly consists of planned (especially retirement) communities with various recreational facilities. Its population has grown enormously since its incorporation in 1961, 320% in the years 1970–90.
