Penrith| Town in Cumbria, England, 28 km/17 mi southeast of Carlisle, on a hilly site above the River Eamont; population (2001) 14,500. Penrith manufactures agricultural machinery. The M6 motorway runs immediately to the west of the town and Penrith railway station is on the main London–Glasgow line. |
