Pentland Hills

Pentland Hills

Mountainous ridge in southeast Scotland running from Carnwath in South Lanarkshire unitary authority, 30 km/19 mi northeast to the city of Edinburgh. Its average height is above 300 m/985 ft, and its breadth is 6–10 km/4–6 mi. Scald Law, rising to 579 m/1,900 ft, and Carnethy Hill, at 576 m/1,890 ft, are the highest points.

A large dry ski-slope has been established at Hillend at the northern end of the ridge. Significant archaeological remains are located on the slopes of Castlelaw, height 486 m/1,594 ft.
