Peoria County

County of central Illinois, USA, bounded to the east and southeast by the lakes and course of the Illinois River; area 1,608 sq km/621 sq mi; population (1990) 182,800. In the southeast the city of Peoria and its suburbs (such as Peoria Heights and Bartonville) account for most of the population. Manufacturing and distribution are key economic activities in this portion of the county. Chillicothe, in the northeast, is another urban centre. The rural areas produce corn and livestock.
