Pepita Jiménez

Opera by Isaac Albéniz (libretto, in English, by F B Money-Coutts, based on a story by Juan Valera). It was first produced in Spanish, at the Liceo, Barcelona, on 5 January 1896. The story concerns the rich young widow Pepita, who has many suitors, but falls in love only with Don Luis. The priest warns her against this, but despite adversity the two are eventually brought together.
