Percé

Town in southeastern Québec, Canada, at the eastern end of the Gaspé Peninsula, 37 km/23 mi southeast of Gaspé; population (1991) 4,000. Originally a small fishing community, it has become a popular summer resort and artists' colony. Local scenery includes the nearby islands of Bonaventure and Percé Rock, after which the town was named; both are now bird sanctuaries. Percé was founded by missionaries in the 1670s.

The island of Percé Rock (‘pierced rock’) is named for an erosional arch formed at one end.
