Perceval, John

    0.01 sec.

Perceval, John (1923–2000)

Australian artist. He was the last surviving member of a group of Melbourne painters known as Angry Penguins, who during the 1940s developed modern techniques previously unknown in Australia. Their radical work was usually concerned with exposing current social problems and suffering. Perceval's work, unlike that of his colleagues, took a personal and intimate view of his subjects, such as street musicians and inner city children.

The other Angry Penguins included Arthur Boyd (whose sister Perceval married in 1944), Albert Tucker, and Sidney Noland.
