Perkins, Charles E(lliott) (1840–1907)

US railroad executive. In 1859, at the advice of his cousin John Murray Forbes, he clerked for the Burlington & Missouri Railroad, working his way up to superintendent by 1865. He became vice-president of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy in 1876. The two railroads consolidated in 1880 and he became president in 1881. When he resigned in 1901 the financially sound system comprised over 7,000 miles of track. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
