Perl

Open source programming language developed in 1987 by US linguist Larry Wall for processing text. However, it has proved extremely popular as a way of writing CGI scripts for Web pages. Hailed as the ‘duct tape’ of the Internet, Perl is used by over half of the sites on the World Wide Web.
