Perosi, Lorenzo (1872-1956)

Italian priest and composer. He studied at Milan and Ratisbon, in Bavaria, and among other appointments became choirmaster at St Mark's, Venice, in 1894, and music director of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, in 1898. In 1905, he was nominated perpetual master of the Pontifical Chapel.

Works

Sacred and secular music

33 Masses, four Requiems, Stabat Mater, a Te Deum, and much other church music; organ works.

Oratorios

The Transfiguration (1898), The Raising of Lazarus (1898), The Resurrection, Moses, Leo the Great, The Last Judgment (1904).

Orchestral

ten planned symphonies on the names of Italian cities, including Il sogno interpretato; Florence, Rome, Venice and Bologna.
