Perotinus Magnus

Perotinus Magnus (c. 1160-c. 1205 or c. 1225)

French composer and scholar. He was maître de chapelle of the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary (later Notre-Dame Cathedral). He is said to have revised Leoninus' Liber organi de graduali and composed organa (see organum) in as many as four parts. His best known organa are on the Christmas and St Stephen's Day Graduals (1198, 1199).
