Also found in: Encyclopedia 0.01 sec.

Perret, Auguste (1874–1954)

French architect, born in Brussels. He was a pioneer in the use of reinforced concrete. Noted for the exposed concrete frames of his buildings, his most developed work is the church of Notre Dame de Raincy (1922–23).

He designed the Casino at St Malo; the Champs-Elysées Theatre, Paris (1911–14); the Museum of Public Works and the National School of Music, both in Paris; Marignane Airport (1947); and post-war reconstruction work at Le Havre, including the Hôtel de Ville and the church of St Joseph (1960). Perret's thinking on standardized building components was later to influence Le Corbusier.
