Perris

Town in Riverside County, southwestern California, USA, in the Perris Valley, east of the Santa Ana Mountains, 23 km/14 mi southeast of Riverside; population (1990) 21,500. Perris was primarily a farming community until recent residential growth took place; its population tripled in the 1980s. At the time of its incorporation in 1911, the area was known for its gold mines. Lake Perris, situated 8 km/5 mi to the northeast, is a major reservoir and recreational centre.
