Perry, Eugene (1955- )

US baritone. He made his debut in 1986 in Thomson's Four Saints in Three Acts, New York. He sang Tarj in the first performance of Under the Double Moon by Anthony Davis (St Louis 1989), and the title role in the Peter Sellars production of Don Giovanni. He made his European debut at Nice in 1989, as Alidoro in Cenerentola. He sang with the New York City Opera from 1989, in the local first performances of Janáček's From the House of the Dead and Zimmerman's Die Soldaten, and as Xerxes in the premiere of Esther by Weisgall (1993). He created Mamoud in The Death of Klinghoffer by John Adams (Brussels 1991); he repeated the role in New York and San Francisco. His recordings include a video of Don Giovanni.
