Perry, Matthew (1969- )

US actor. He is best known for his Emmy-nominated role as witty, deadpan Chandler on the hit television comedy series Friends (1994-2004). Films include the romantic comedy Fools Rush In (1997) and the action comedies The Whole Nine Yards (2000) and its sequel The Whole Ten Yards (2004).

Other films include She's Out of Control (1989), Almost Heroes (1998), Three to Tango (1999), and Serving Sara (2002). He was critically acclaimed for his recurring guest role on the popular television drama series The West Wing (2003). Stage performances include a starring role in David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago (2003) in London's West End. He produced and starred in The Beginning of Wisdom (2004) with his father, actor John Bennett Perry.

He was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts. His parents divorced when he was still a baby, and his mother raised him in Ottawa, Canada. An accomplished tennis player, Perry moved to Los Angeles, California, to live with his father and to try to pursue a career as a tennis pro and actor. He made his film debut in the River Phoenix film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988). He starred in two short-lived series, Boys Will Be Boys and Sydney, before landing several guest starring roles in series such as Beverly Hills 90210 and Growing Pains.
