Pescetti, Giovanni Battista

Pescetti, Giovanni Battista (c. 1704–1766)

Italian composer. He produced his first opera, Nerone detronato, in Venice in 1725. He lived in London 1737–45, and was for a time music director of the Covent Garden and King's theatres.

He studied with Antonio Lotti. After his return to Italy, his last opera was produced at Padua in 1761. He was appointed second organist at St Mark's, Venice, in 1762.
