Pešek, Libor (1933- )

Czech conductor. He studied in Prague and founded the Prague Chamber Harmony (1959), and the Sebastian Orchestra (1965). He was musical director of the State Chamber Orchestra of Czechoslovakia (1969-77), and the Frysk Orkest, Netherlands (1969-75). From 1982 he was conductor-in-residence with the Czech Philharmonic, and was principal conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (1987-95). He was a guest conductor with the Philharmonia, London, and performed widely in Europe, Russia, and the USA. His recordings include the symphonies of Dvořák, Don Giovanni, Martinů's Greek Passion, and Haydn's ‘Paris’ symphonies.
