Pestalozzi, Johann Heinrich (1746–1827)

Swiss educationalist who advocated the French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau's ‘natural’ principles (of natural development and the power of example), and described his own theories in Wie Gertrude ihre Kinder lehrt/How Gertrude Teaches her Children (1801). He stressed the importance of mother and home in a child's education.
