Peters, Reinhard (1926– )

German conductor. He studied in Berlin, and in Paris with Cortot and Thibaud. He conducted in Berlin (both the Städtische Oper and the Philharmonic) from 1952, and was permanent guest conductor of the Deutsche Oper from 1970. He was conductor of the Münster Opera (1961–70) and the Philharmonia Hungarica (1975–79). He led Don Giovanni and Die Zauberflöte at Glyndebourne (1969–70). He has conducted premieres of operas by Blacher, Sutermeister (Madame Bovary, 1967), and Reimann (Melusine, 1970).
