Peterson-Berger, Wilhelm (1867-1942)

Swedish composer. He wrote music criticism 1896-1930 and was stage manager of the Stockholm Opera 1908-10. He translated Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and was influenced by Wagner in his own stage works. His Arnljot (1910) is a national opera which has frequently been revived.

He studied at the Stockholm Conservatory 1886-89, and in Dresden with Hermann Kretzschmar (1848-1924).

five symphonies (1889-1933), violin concerto (1928), 100 piano pieces, including Frösöblomster (1896); song collection Svensk lyrik.
