Petitot, Jean (1608-1691)

French painter in enamel, active in England and France. In England he met van Dyck about 1634, who introduced him to Charles I. Petitot painted portraits of Charles and his court, and made miniature copies of many of van Dyck's pictures. In Paris he enjoyed the patronage of Louis XIV.
