Petkov, Dimiter (1938- )

Bulgarian bass. He studied in Sofia, where he sang Ramfis and Zaccaria, in 1964. Between 1968 and 1970 he appeared at Glyndebourne, as Osmin and Gremin. He sang Philip II at the Verona Arena (1969), and from 1972 appeared at the Vienna Staatsoper, as Philip, Boris, Ivan Khovansky, and Mephistopheles. He made guest performances in Paris, Berlin, Milan, Washington DC, Florence, and Dallas with all the Verdi bass roles, and in operas by Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti. In 1993 he sang Rimsky-Korsakov's Salieri with the London Symphony Orchestra, at Daytona Beach, Florida.
