Petrie, (William Matthew) Flinders (1853-1942)

English archaeologist who excavated sites in Egypt (the pyramids at El Gîza, the temple at Tanis, the Greek city of Naucratis in the Nile delta, Tell el Amarna, Naqada, Abydos, and Memphis) and Palestine from 1880. He was knighted in 1923.
