Petrželka, Vilém (1889-1967)

Czech composer. He studied with Novák in Prague and Janáček at Brno, became a conductor at Pardubice and in 1919 went to Brno as professor at the Conservatory.

Works

Orchestral

the symphonic drama Sailor Nicholas (1928), Hymn to the Sun for chorus and orchestra, symphony (1956), Eternal Return, two suites, dramatic overture for orchestra.

Chamber

five string quartets (1909-15), fantasy and suite for string quartet, sonata and Intimate Hours for violin and piano, piano pieces, songs, part songs.
