Petticoat Lane

Street in London, England, noted for the clothes and general market held here on Sunday mornings. It runs north from Aldgate High Street, in the borough of Tower Hamlets. Although the name ‘Petticoat Lane’ was officially discontinued in about 1830, it is still popularly used. The street is officially named Middlesex Street.

Huguenot silk weavers from France settled here and in nearby Spitalfields in the 17th century. The street was originally called Hog Lane.
