Pflimlin, Pierre

    0.01 sec.

Pflimlin, Pierre (1907-2000)

French politician. He entered parliament in 1946 as Social Catholic mayor of Strasbourg, France. He was a minister in several governments of the Fourth Republic. He became prime minister in May 1958 and it was to prevent him supposedly carrying out a conciliatory policy in Algeria that the revolt took place in Algiers. He stood down and gave way to Charles de Gaulle, and served as a minister under him until 1962. He subsequently entered European politics, and served as president of the European Parliament from 1984-87.
