Pforzheim

City in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, 26 km/16 mi southeast of Karlsruhe, on the northern border of the Black Forest; population (2005 est) 119,000. There are goldsmith, jewellery, and watch-making industries. It was a Roman settlement, and the residence of the margraves (princes) of Baden 1300–1565, although nothing remains except the Archives Tower, and the palace church containing the Renaissance tombs of the landgraves of Baden.
