Pforzheim

City in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, 26 km/16 mi southeast of Karlsruhe, on the northern border of the Black Forest; population (2005 est) 119,000. There are goldsmith, jewellery, and watch-making industries. It was a Roman settlement, and the residence of the margraves (princes) of Baden 1300-1565, although nothing remains except the Archives Tower, and the palace church containing the Renaissance tombs of the landgraves of Baden.
