Phalaris

Phalaris (c. 570-c. 554 BC)

Tyrant of the Greek colony of Acragas (Agrigento) in Sicily. He is said to have built a hollow bronze bull in which his victims were roasted alive. He was killed in a revolt.

The Letters of Phalaris attributed to him were proved by the British scholar Richard Bentley to be a forgery of the 2nd century AD.
