Pharr

Town in Hidalgo County, southern Texas, USA, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, 74 km/46 mi northwest of Brownsville and adjacent to the east of McAllen; population (1990) 32,900. It is a winter vacation centre. Leather clothing is manufactured, and local products include cotton, citrus fruits, vegetables, oil, and natural gas. The settlement was originally established in 1909.
