Philo Judaeus (lived 1st century AD)

Jewish philosopher of Alexandria who in AD 40 undertook a mission to Caligula to protest against the emperor's claim to divine honours. In his writings Philo Judaeus attempts to reconcile Judaism with Platonic and Stoic ideas.

26) There was an older tradition of the symbolic reading of the Bible which originated with Philo Judaeus (30 BC-45 AD) of Alexandria in the first century AD.
