Piatra-Neamţ

Capital of Neamţ county, eastern Romania, on the River Bistriţa, at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, 97 km/61 mi west of Iaşi; population (1993) 125,200. It is a market town, trading chiefly in timber. Piatra-Neamţ has textile, foodprocessing, paper, and oil refining industries, and is also a centre of folk culture.
