Picchi, Mirto (1915-1980)

Italian tenor. He made his debut at Milan in 1946, as Radames. He sang Rodolfo, Cavaradossi, and the Duke of Mantua at the Cambridge Theatre, London (1947-48). In 1949 he visited Edinburgh with the Glyndebourne company, as Verdi's Riccardo. He appeared at Florence, in Rossini's L'Assedio di Corinto (1949), and in 1957 was heard in Lucrezia Borgia, at La Scala, Milan. Amongst his modern roles were Britten's Billy Budd and Peter Grimes. He retired in 1975.
