Pickett, Philip (1950- )

English director and performer of early wind instruments. He studied with Anthony Baines and David Munrow, gaining experience on the recorder, shawm, rackett, and crumhorn. From 1972 he was a professor of recorder at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was a soloist with leading chamber ensembles. He was director of the New London Consort at festivals throughout Europe, Russia, and Latin America. He led the ‘Medieval Christmas Extravaganza’ on London's South Bank, and the ‘Bonfire of the Vanities’ (Medici Wedding Celebrations of 1539) at the 1991 London Promenade Concerts. His recordings include Monteverdi's Vespers and Orfeo, Medieval Pilgrimage to Santiago, Medieval Carmina Burana, and The Delights of Posilipo (Neapolitan Dances).
