Pierce, John Robinson (1910–2002)| US electrical engineer. In the 1950s Pierce was one of the first to see the possibilities of satellite communication and played a role in the research that resulted in the launch of Echo (1960) and Telstar (1962). |
| He was born in Des Moines, Iowa. Pierce worked in the Bell Telephone Laboratories (1936–71), subsequently becoming professor at the California Institute of Technology. |
