Pietilä, Reima Frans Ilmari

    0.07 sec.

Pietilä, Reima Frans Ilmari (1923–1993)

Finnish architect. Influenced by Alvar Aalto, his buildings reflect the natural Finnish landscape of forests, lakes, and rocks in their free-flowing forms. The Embassy of Finland, New Delhi, 1983–85, has a faceted roof shape, recalling the snow sculptures found in the winter ice around the Gulf of Finland.

He was a member of CIAM and one of a group of Scandinavian architects who sought to explore the possibilities for regional variation within the context of the Modern Movement. His other works include the Finnish Pavilion at the Brussels World Fair 1956–58 and the Kaleva Church, Tampere 1959–66.
