Pieve di Cadore

Village in Veneto region, northeast Italy, on the River Piave; population (1991) 4,000. It is the centre of the Cadore, a mountainous district in the Alps, north of Belluno. The surrounding district was the scene of much fighting during World War I. Pieve di Cadore is the birthplace of the Renaissance painter Titian, and the house in which he was born is now a museum; one of his works can be seen in the church here.
