pigeon racing

The sport of racing pigeons against a clock. The birds are taken from their loft(s) and transported to a starting point, often hundreds of miles away. They have to return to their loft and their arrivals are timed.

In shorter races pigeons failing to reach their destination average 10–20%; in longer races losses can be much higher.
