Piggott, Stuart (1910-1996)

British archaeologist. He was an authority on antiquarianism and the history of archaeology. His publications include Prehistoric India 1950 (revised 1975), Ancient Europe 1965, The Druids 1968, and The Earliest Wheeled Transport 1980.

While engaged in military intelligence during World War II, he carried out useful research on the prehistory of India. With the British archaeologist Glyn Daniel, Piggott looked at the impact of Romanticism and rationalism on the discipline of archaeology.
