Pilcomayo

River in South America; length 1,280 km/795 mi. The Pilcomayo rises in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes about 96 km/60 mi northwest of Potosí, Bolivia. From here it flows southeast, through the Sierra and then through the Chaco region of Paraguay, to join the River Paraguay just south of Asunción. The Pilcomayo, which is rich in fish, forms the longest border between Paraguay and Argentina.
