pillory

Former instrument of punishment consisting of a wooden frame set on a post, with holes in which the prisoner's head and hands were secured, similar to the stocks. Bystanders threw whatever was available at the miscreant.

Its use for punishing petty offenders ended in the US in Delaware 1905.
