Pine, Courtney (1964- )

British jazz composer and musician, who plays tenor and soprano saxophone and bass clarinet. He was a founding member of The Abiba Jazz Arts (TAJA) and the 21-piece band the Jazz Warriors '85, performing with such jazz greats as Art Blakey and Elvin Jones (1927-2004). During the late 1980s and early 1990s he was often compared to John Coltrane, but then began to include other musical influences including funk, folk, African, West Indian, and hip-hop.
